Color Art Deck Exchange
An Artist Trading Card Extravaganza!
See Cards

The following proposal was posted on-line in mid-April, 2003 at the Artistjournals2, Alteredbooks, Print-Editions and CarvingConsortium lists as well as by invitation.  The general idea was to produce a deck of 2-sided cards representing an array of color and their significance to individual artists.

Particulars:

Size: 2 ˝”w x 3 ˝”h. Corners may be square or rounded. Portrait orientation.

Weight: Cardstock (67-110 lb.)

Number: 26 for 1 set.  Do 2 sets for a full deck of 52.

Work is due in my hands: June 18, 2003.

A full set of different cards will be returned to you: Early August, 2003. See last paragraph.

Medium: Your choice. This means you will also be open to receiving cards of many different styles: printed, drawn, stamped, painted, collaged, embellished.

Photocopies are acceptable. That said, they must be high-quality, high-resolution crisp color copies. If you use computer printers, laser or inkjet, ensure that the paper is of sufficient weight (or paste the cards to a heavier-weight paper) and the printing of excellent quality.

On side #1 of the card is an artwork depicting something about a color of your choice, or about color in general. It can be something like Red or something like “that-faded-dress-my grandmother-wore Blue”. On side #2 of the card are some words describing the meaning of the color (historical or imaginary), the color’s significance, mood, place on the color wheel, why it’s your favorite hue, a quote about the color (with attribution), etc. In addition, on side #2 (this is optional), you may include a “suit”, a number, an arcana, a symbol of your choice.

VERY IMPORTANT: Some of these cards will be selected and printed in the next issue of Ink & Ruminations Art ‘Zine, Issue#3—Color!. By joining this swap, you grant permission to have your work published in this manner, and this manner only. Artist credit will be given as well as my great appreciation! I would like to hold onto the cards until early August in order for the ‘zine to take full form before I send them back. I want to showcase your work to its best advantage as well as return to you a fabulous set of cards. I will keep you posted as this develops.

Include: Your full name, mailing address and e-mail address.

Thank you for your consideration of what will surely be a fun Spring project of awesome art! Go Play!
