Theme and
Design: Remember “Dark Shadows” (I was just a baby, of course…)?
It was cool and cutting edge but also romantic and mysterious. How
about Poppies: beautiful, seductive, addictive, deadly…? There are
Fairies in the garden, but do they always mean us well or is their
capricious, self-serving nature devoid of empathy? What happens in
the colorful flower beds as twilight wanes? Does that tree know
more than it’s letting on; what has that 100-year-old Oak
witnessed? “The woods are lovely, dark and deep…”
Quality and
Materials: I want to encourage your best work. If that is richly
layered digital design, so be it. If it is compositionally
accomplished paper collage, so be it. I don’t want a simple paper
collage that is photocopied. You may paint, draw, photograph,
collage, stitch, letter, embellish. Within the design parameters,
these are the production parameters: an artwork on sturdy paper
that will fit into a standard plastic ATC sleeve and express your
own ideas in a thoughtful way. Yes, I would like you to really
think on this one, to explore your inspiration and imagination, mine
those late-night banterings with the Muses, delve into your own
Heart of Darkness (omit the intimate details…) as it relates to
the theme.
That said, I
think this swap is well within everyone’s reach, difficult
techniques not required, but pushing the envelope of your comfort
zone? Definitely… ATCs are a great, small place to experiment
without making a huge commitment.
I encourage
you to sample some of your early ideas before you settle on the
final artwork. If you leave this till the last minute, I suspect
you will be disappointed.
ATC size
cards, 2 1/2” x 3 1/2”, in sets of 6. You may sign up for more than 1
set (you will receive back as many as you send). Each set of 6 may
have its own design, or each card may be different.

Include return postage in stamps that matches your postage to me,
plus $1 cash for envelope and goodies. Do not send me your
own envelope. Do send a clearly self-addressed adhesive
