When
considering this issue, which was suggested by shared artwork in an
Altered Book Round Robin, trees declared themselves as significant
and meaningful elements of nature, our personal lives and our art.
Apparently huge numbers of artists consider trees to be totems or
touchstones of inspiration and when I cast a call for artwork, tree
images came pouring in. For me, trees are a part of both my
professional lives, Art and Landscape Design. As I was writing
articles, I found myself expressing my own opinions (surprise,
surprise!) and professional experiences on trees as elements of the
landscape, how they affect our lives and gardens, how we physically
and psychologically interact with them, which tree species I most
admire, which perform in different climates, in short, a
horticultural ‘zine!
Have
no fear; we’re back on track with Art as the primary focus though,
caveat emptor, you’ll still get a dose of agricultural
factoids…
This
issue includes a new experiment for providing interesting diversions
for my readers: a CD with high-resolution images for you to use
in your own artwork.
