Subject: A couple of zines in review
Hello Everyone,
I just received a few zines last week which I wish to make comment
on
via small reviews...
_______________
INK & RUMINATIONS Issue 4:
This is the best Ink & Ruminations yet from editor Jane Dickinson.
Watching this half page format zine slowly blossom from issue to
issue, number 4 definitely brings this zine into its own. It has
obviously found its voice and style. I think we can comfortably
assume Ms. Dickinson will only go from strength to strength from
here
on out progressing in leaps and bounds. The theme for the issue
is "Trees". A theme I can heavily relate to as an artist on many
levels using them in most of my own drawings and paintings and
concern for the environment. The last zine to touch on this theme
successfully was Melissa McCobb Hubbell's AEZ issue 2 with its "Into
the Woods" theme. With Jane's zine, she offers a number of great
articles, lots of color illustrations, a CD with full-color high
resolution images open for use in reader's own artwork and the usual
odd goodies (inclusions) attached to the pages throughout. I
especially liked the how-to article on making a mini star book
written by Lin Frye, the samples of hand marbled cotton fabric
(watch out Alain Valet, these samples may give you a bit of
competition) and the article on Digital Collage by the editor. My
favorite image in issue 4 was a real ATC attached to page 12 also by
Jane Dickinson called "Chair of Origin". What an awesome ATC ! Now
probably one of my all time favorite digital collage ATCs that I
have
seen/received to date. Well, what an awesome zine overall. This issue is more than worth
its meager price tag,
especially since the price is inclusive of the postage cost for US
residents.
Ink & Ruminations is currently
