All the Trimmings:
Using Fabric and Fibers to Texturize Your Art

Beginning with humble cotton, we will progress through more exotic combinations like organza with embossing powder, bonding web and Punchinella. You will learn myriad tools and simple techniques to add depth and dimension to your collages and altered book pages with textiles.

This 1-day (3 hrs. a.m., lunch, 3 hrs. p.m.) workshop will cover:

The Wonder of WonderUnder:
Fused fabrics in books as backgrounds and collage elements
Fused fabric book covers
Fabric collage on canvas

Your Transfer Ticket:
Techniques for transferring images onto fabrics
Exciting art from your scanner and printer

Stitch it Up:
Easy ways to add stitching with thread, yarn and ribbon
Add beads, charms, and other danglies

The Finished Product:
Numerous examples of finished artwork using these techniques and materials will be shared and explained.

Fee: $65.00/student, 6 student minimum.
For local classes, a $0.40/mile travel fee beyond 20 miles from the artist’s home
For classes beyond the local area, travel fees by arrangement

Jane Dickinson is a professional studio artist with over a dozen years teaching multi-media surface design with textiles and papers, including marbling, hand-dyeing, resist dye techniques like shibori, low-water immersion dyeing, using fabrics in your collage and many paper-based collage techniques including altered books.
